Torontonians need not suffer the indignity of exposing their clunky garbage and recycling bins on their front stoops for all to see.
Toronto-based Bin Solutions (bin solutions.ca) has custom-designed cedar shed kits that neatly hold all three City of Toronto bins, with a little extra room for storage. The bins are also raccoon-proof.
The mini-sheds, measuring about 5 feet wide by 6 feet tall by 28 inches deep, are available in naturally weathering cedar, or in premium pine which can be painted or stained to match the exterior of your home. They cost $850, or $1,100 for a taller model.
Bin Solutions launched in 2005 when construction worker Zion Shraiter, newly emigrated from Israel, grew frustrated with the growing clutter of the city's recycling and composting programs.

Three years ago, Zion Shraiter, an Israeli general contractor, pulled up stakes and moved from Tel Aviv to Toronto with his wife, a documentary filmmaker. Soon after arriving, he found himself aghast at the sight of piles of recycling bins and garbage cans strewn across the front porches and driveways of every house in his new neighbourhood.
"I was shocked," says Shraiter, a tall, sinewy man with a talkative streak. In Tel Aviv, builders can't get a construction permit unless their plans include an enclosed storage area for waste bins.
Solutions for Toronto’s New Waste Collection System
The City of Toronto is proposing a new automated garbage collection system, tentatively scheduled to begin in the fall of 2008. Homeowners will have the option of choosing to use a 120 Litre, 240 Litre or 360 Litre or a combination of any of these sizes depending on individual household needs. The new 120 L bin is very close in capacity to an everyday garbage can. Although we plan to focus mostly on units to house the 120 L size, Bins Solutions has options to accommodate all of the proposed sizes

his sole stock in trade was the shock he got when he first emigrated to
